It was a wet and windy evening. Dressed in my finest three piece with my lucky hat, I’ve got a broad on my arm and a night of fine cocktails, music, popcorn and a classic movie ahead of me. Little did I know I’d wind up with pie on my face come evenings end! Immersed in a recreation of the late 1920’s aesthetic for the screening of the childhood classic, Bugsy Malone, complete with actors bringing much loved characters to life, becoming best pals with Fat Sam, all whilst gobbling down a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. This was a movie going experience that will forever live in my memory.
For the Secret Cinema gang, this is what they do, breaking down the barrier of the silver screen and creating huge theatrical events that bring our favourite movies to life. Living by the rule that the film be kept a secret, the buzz created by this talented band of visionaries has resulted in those whispers growing louder and louder, to the point where the rule was broken earlier this year with their first soiree in to the release of a feature film, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Now talk of the town, anticipation surrounding their announcement for their next event is rife, but Secret Cinema founder, Fabien Riggall has ditched the secretive traditions and announced Back to the Future as their next movie and it proves to be their biggest and boldest adventure to date. Rigall say’s “We will build an entire town, where audiences will live inside the world of Back To The Future. We will play heavily on the innocent dream-like Americana world of 1955 and the nostalgic pre-mobile phone world of 1985.”
With plans to transport audience members through the varying time periods with the use of secret alleys and even a model of the famed Delorean DMC-12, along with a host of other surprises up their sleeves, this is the must attend movie event of the year. Set to run between July and August, be sure to buckle up, hit 88 MPH and prepare for the biggest cinematic adventure of your life.
