All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy, but on our website Jill pushed Jack down a hill a long time ago…
Welcome to Rhythm Circus 2.0: The Revenge of the ! We’ve been around over a year now and in that time we’ve bought you an eclectic range of coverage from indie rock and new folk, to electronica and hip-hop; from Hollywood classics old and new, to the best (and weirdest) in world cinema; from blockbuster videogames to the renaissance of board gaming. We’ve always been interested in mixing the sacred, the profane and the downright unexpected – measuring B-Movies against canonical classics, treating videogames as a proper artform (gasp!) and dredging the musical depths for the whole spectrum of auditory delights. We’re never afraid to topple the monolith of mainstream entertainment and marvel at the creepy things crawling beneath. We’ve even had our quotes on a few DVD covers.
Rhythm Circus is more than a sum of its loosely fitting parts. The spirit of the site can be found in the blazing trail behind the DeLorean, the crane shot at the start of A Touch of Evil and the final, apocalyptic ten minutes of Akira; in Johnnie Mar’s guitar licks, Thom York’s wounded vocals and the bit in a Pendulum tune that makes you go “shit yeah!” It’s a community of enthusiasts who are obsessive about music, films and games; who like nothing more than to explore the outer reaches of culture for unlikely hidden gems and to fly in the face of conventional wisdom.
With our amazing new look and growing army of talented young writers from every corner of the UK we’ll be upping the ante in continuing our efforts to inform, engage and surprise.
